Have researched my mum's line without any problems because she was from convict stock - however my father's line has not been so easy. His grandfather was John Crofts, father William and his siblings were William, Frederick, Thomas, Stella & Myrtle. Dad was known as Jack but his name was Edward John. We lived at Auburn but he was born in Goulburn. I believe John (1st) came from Warwickshire, England. Another associated surname was Wilson also from Goulburn & Auburn. I bet we have all been there.!
My grandfater was Walter Crofts one of several to his father Henry. Henry Crofts was born in 1871 in Holbrooke Derbyshire. He lived his adult life in Mansfield Notts. Henry's mother is known to have been Martha Crofts, however from the birth cert no father is listed. It is believed that Martha was a "higgler". A door to door seller of pigs and chickens. I have visited Holbrooke cemetary and there are several Crofts buried there in the late 1800's. Does anyone have any connections. There are bound to be some with so many entries from that neck of the woods.

hello to all Crofts...I've been on here before as have most of my brothers and sisters too.
Sadly I'm here to announce the death of my mother Patricia Catherine Crofts of Cardiff S.Wales GB. aged 77. She passed away on the 10th November 2009 very peacefully at the University Hospital Cardiff (Heath Hospital).The funeral was held on Thurs 19th November and she was cremated afterwards at Thornhill Crematorium. Her ashes shall then be laid to rest with her late husband Derek Edward Crofts at Ely Cemetery...RIP

I'm a Canadian Crofts in the Montreal area and my parents were from Scotland. I'd be happy to hear from anyone else researching the history of Crofts or Croft families in Scotland. (I know that some of our relatives gave up and dropped the "s".)

It's fun trying to get people to understand "Crofts" over the phone here in French Canada: "cé - èr -o - effe comme François - té comme Thomas - esse comme Sylvie" usually works to get it written correctly, but pronouncing it is another matter. I usually end up being called monsieur Croft, although on one occasion someone did make a valiant effort and called me monsieur Croftisse!

Hi Dawn & Wes, sorry for slow reply but have been undertaking some research, unfortunately without too many answers yet. The one thing that has come to light though, is that the oldest part of the graveyard at Blyth was covered over as a car park, so Church records will have to be sought.Some of our forebears were supposed to have lived at Harwell nr. Blyth but Harwell has no graveyard of its own, and on questioning the locals it ewas found that nearby Everton was the local Church. A search of its graveyard did'nt bring anything else to light - so another request to see the Church records is required.

i did have a giggle over the message about phone conversations as i get it al thetime. i even say like Laura Crofts with an s on the end. except you missed out CRUFTS as in the dog show. i get that all the time. i thought that Crofts was very uncommon as my dad and grandad used to be the only ones in the south london phone book when i last looked (which i must admitt was abot 17 years ago)maybe i have some long lost familey!! weird though. the picture of kate crofts looks very much like my older sister.

Found this while searching for my son.
I am the one of 4 children of James Arthur C who was the only son of George C only sonand grandson of 2 James C's of Wooley Moor Derbyshire.
I believe Thomas Crofts the poet was a cousin or uncle of my grandfather and may be the Thomas referred to by on eentry from the US.
My grandfather had 4 sisters I think, the only one I met was Annie who married a Mr Coupe late in life and had sons Harry and Ernest. There was also Ginnie Lizzie and Edie one of whom had a son Sam.
There was also a great uncle William in the villiage but my aunt "Mollie" (Elsie Mary) Crofts born 1916 is a not sure how he fits in.

Well i'll be. I never thought I would ever find a whole family of Crofts on a website. My father was Edmond Crofts. We are from Madisonville, TN. His brothers names were Reeford, Tom, Richard, and Doyle. His sisters names were Loraine and Johnny. Their parents names were Arlie and Bessie. Greetings from Arizona. I found this spot while playing on computer with granddaughter LISSA. Laughed about spelling problems with others. Seems so simple. CRO F as in Frank, T as in Tom and S as in Sam...I rattle that off pretty quick. Guess it sounds like hissing. :) My husbands ancestors left UK for Texas and Sydney, Australia. Hard to find info. Entered the surname to see if there was much history in the Crofts name, whether here in the UK or around the world and surprised to see that so many other people have the same problem. Others think you are alien because you have an "S" at the end of your name. And they still go ahead and spell it incorrectly. Would love to hear from any of you "Crofts" out there.

Just to carry on the theme, i too have been cursed with the surname that no-one is capable of spelling correctly. I do believe that to leave off the 's' is actually tantermount to treason and as such is punishable by the birch. Anyway all you gynaecologists or geneologists or whatever you are: Father was John N Crofts from Huddersfield and his father was of questionable parentage some say he was a Belgian soldier who returned after the war unaware Dads Mum Janet Crofts was with child. I have it on good authority that our branch is related to the clan Campbell, and me im doing my best to keep the line going my daughter Rebecca Lucy was born 25.03.04. Happy hunting. I've responded to Phil's blog and now here's a quick response to yours, Kate. The cakes were such fun to make and VERY green!! I enjoyed all of it - especially making the pumpkins and spooks out of Phoebe's rice paper, with art work carried out using a sugar pen.Phoebe couldn't wait to try one, but I haven't heard yet if you and Phil enjoyed yours-and what about the pictures of the tadpoles?All Phoebe's idea; no prompting by grown-ups.We thought they were wonderful (but then, we are soppy grandparents a lot of the time).We know she isn't Van Gogh, but as we like her ears, that's probably just as well.

Anyway - it's wierd how people's lives can cross - my best friend used to Waitress @ Leez Priory and lives in Braintree - and we both work for the NHS - although a London based PCT - so it was co-incidental to see that you design websites for the Essex Health Authority!!

I have just been exploring your site from a link left on the babycentre board. It's really great to see your baby pics and makes me realise that it ia all getting very close.
